Polish your skin to a gleaming glow with a blend of mineral rich sea salt, creamy coconut oil and the sweet scent of vanilla.

The past couple of weeks I’ve had more than a couple daydreams about laying on a beach, basking in the Caribbean sun, a tall glass of fruity/coconutty tropical drink in hand.  I always come home with the BEST glow courtesy of the hot Caribbean sun and sand.  However since frolicking in a tropical paradise isn’t quite my reality right now, I’ll settle for the next best thing- smooth, polished skin that smells like a decadent tropical treat!  If a beach vacation isn’t in your near future (or even if it is!)then I highly recommend this amazing DIY vanilla coconut salt glow.  You’ll certainly feel like you’ve been on one!

This delicious scrub smells incredible and leaves your skin unbelievably satiny smooth. An irresistible blend of sea salt and shredded coconut gently buffs away dry skin while coconut oil deeply hydrates and replenishes moisture.  I recently purchased an inexpensive bag of Himalayan pink sea salt that I whizzed up in the blender to get perfect sized granules for this salt glow.  High in trace minerals, sea salt is amazing for your skin and body.

All of the ingredients are completely natural and nourish your skin without any toxic chemicals.  If you don’t have vanilla essential oil, in a pinch you can substitute with vanilla extract.

1 cup of fine sea salt (I used ground pink Himalayan which is high in minerals)
1/4 cup of unsweetened shredded coconut
5 Tablespoons unrefined coconut oil
15 drops of vanilla essential oil.

Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl.  Blend well.
While in a shower or bath, after cleansing skin, smooth the scrub in long strokes over your skin avoiding any open cuts.  Rinse off.

For as long as I can remember I’ve enjoyed making my own  body products.  There’s something very comforting about knowing exactly what goes on (and therefore in) to my skin.  It’s amazing all of the ingredients nature has provided for us to be our best selves.  Here’s to thoughts of warm sand, fresh ocean water and hot sunshine!

    1. It would make a wonderful gift! I love to give homemade body products to my friends and fam. If you make it, let me know how it works for you.

  1. Great Idea!! I have always wanted a simple recipe to follow. If I can find the Coconut out in China I will definitely try this. Is there a substitute for the coconut I could try?

    1. Hi Kafi! You can use any carrier oil such as sweet almond, jojoba, grape seed or even a light olive oil. Hope that helps.
